Foundry Quarter: planning approved

Manchester City Council has granted outline planning approval for the Foundry Quarter masterplan, covering 1,400 homes, a primary school, three retained foundry sheds and a linear park along 600 metres of daylighted river.

The approval follows two years of consultation with residents of Ancoats and Ardwick, whose comments shaped the height strategy and the decision to keep the largest shed as a public market.

The first phase, the park and the school, begins on site in spring 2026 and is due to complete in 2027. Elias Brandt leads the project for the studio.
